  * organic-walled, flask shaped
  * geologic range: very patchy; Ordovician – Recent, abundant in the Jurassic

Although organic-walled, tintinnids can sometimes be seen in thin-section preparations when looking at other microfossils (e.g., foraminifera etc.).
